The UK’s media watchdog has been flooded with complaints about a Channel 4 deepfake video of the Queen giving her traditional Christmas message.

The video, which the broadcaster said was to underline the danger of fake news, did not go down well with many viewers who complained it was highly disrespectful of the monarch.

In fact the media oversight body Ofcom is now deciding whether to take action after receiving more than 200 complaints. In the video, the computer generated Queen speaks of rifts in the Royal Family, toilet roll shortages and Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s number of children.

A post shared by Channel 4 (@channel4) At one point the spoof video sees the monarch dancing on top of a desk to show off “moves for TikTok”.
