Lancashire's iconic Blackpool Tower has been evacuated after reports of a fire, with a man being arrested by cops. Pictures and videos appeared to show flames emanating from the top of the famous 380ft structure.The incident, on The Promenade, was first reported at around 2:15pm today, reports the Mirror.
A Blackpool Tower spokesperson said that a number of people have been evacuated. However, police have said that the force helicopter flew over the legendary landmark and found no signs of a blaze.
Cops say what appeared to be flames was actually orange netting rippling in the wind at the top of the tower.Blackpool Police's Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Karen Edwards, confirmed that officers were at the Tower and that a man had been arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace.
Chief Supt Edwards said: "We are at the scene in support of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Blackpool Council and Merlin Entertainment.
