Manchester United are close to ushering in the new INEOS era with Sir Dave Brailsford likely to play a major role in overseeing it.

MEN Sport understands Brailsford has visited Carrington on a number of occasions over the last few weeks as Sir Jim Ratcliffe closes in on a 25 per cent stake in the club.

It is widely understood Ratcliffe and INEOS will have the reins on sporting matters at United and Brailsford has often played a key role in that.

The British Cycling supremo was responsible for Team GB's success in the Olympics before moving onto Team Sky which later rebranded as INEOS.
