Bafta-winning writer Jimmy McGovern – who created Cracker – pulls no punches. He paints a brutal picture of life inside, including a horrific assault using boiling water mixed with sugar, known as “sugaring”, and self-harming with a razor blade.
Episode one saw Cobden punched in the face in a phone queue and horrified by the deafening noise and violence around him. Time shines a light on the broken, lawless prison system – where drug dealers and gang members hold more sway than prison.
