Jon Kay had to apologise after he had to interrupt an interview with Southport MP Patrick Hurley during Tuesday's (21 January) instalment of BBC Breakfast.
The pair discussed the Southport attacks of July 2024 ahead of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's imminent live speech, which was scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
Jon courteously warned his guest, saying: "Apologies if we break away from the interview. We're just expecting to go live to Downing Street to hear from the Prime Minister in a moment." Despite the pre-warning, the switch to the Prime Minister's address was quite sudden.
Sally Nugent stepped in to redirect the programme, stating: "Patrick Hurley and we are going straight to Downing Street to the Prime Minister." Tuesday's broadcast featured PM Sir Keir Starmer following the public inquiry into the Southport murders in 2024, reports the Express.
