Barcelona have responded after Lionel Messi overtook Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues.
The Argentinian forward scored from the spot to send the Catalan giants above Real Madrid to the top of La Liga, achieving a personal milestone in the process.
The 32-year-old has now managed 438 goals in 474 appearances in Spain's top flight, one more than Ronaldo has managed in 570 outings.
Barcelona’s official account added a simple message after the feat was completed, stating on Twitter : "The natural order of the universe has been restored." The 35-year-old Juventus striker failed to find the back of the net in his side’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Sunday, ending a goalscoring run of 11 league games.
