Dame Barbara Windsor has sadly passed away at the age of 83. The EastEnders legend was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, but kept her condition secret until 2018 when her symptoms deteriorated in just a few weeks.
Sadly, her condition worsened in recent months and she died on Thursday night at a London care home - with husband Scott Mitchell explaining her final weeks were "full of humour, drama and a fighting spirit until the end".
It was Scott who supported Barbara when she made the agonising decision to say goodbye to her iconic EastEnder character after 22 incredible years.
At the request of his Barbara, who he married in 2000, Scott spoke to then EastEnders producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins to convince him to kill Peggy off.
