Aston Villa are keen to sign Sergio Romero but face a major hurdle in affording the Manchester United goalkeeper’s wages. Dean Smith is keen to land another keeper before the new Premier League season gets underway on September 19 and sees the Argentine as an ideal candidate.
The 33-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at Old Trafford and could be available because of United’s current situation between the sticks.
Romero has been back-up to David de Gea for several years and has been happy to play second fiddle to the Spaniard. He has often featured mainly in Europa League and domestic cup games during his time at the club, with De Gea utilised in the Premier League.
