Armed cops swoop on car outside Manchester park as two men arrested

Two men were today arrested by armed cops outside a park in south Manchester. Police swooped on the pair who were in a vehicle on Moss Lane East, Moss Side, at around 11am.

Specialist Operations officers stopped them outside Whitworth Park., near the junction with Oxford Road. A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and money laundering. They are both now in custody. Police want to ensure that anyone who witnessed the operation knows that it was 'carefully planned beforehand'.

Detective Inspector Simon Akker, of GMP's Serious and Organised Crime Group, said: "We are aware that these arrests were witnessed by people who were in the area at the time so I would like to reassure them that the deployment of specialist tactics was carefully planned beforehand. "I hope this operation reiterates Greater Manchester Police's commitment to proactively fighting serious and organised crime to make our communities safer.
