Man charged with rape of 18-year-old woman in Bolton

A man has been charged with the rape of an 18-year-old woman in Bolton. Police received a report at around 5.30pm on Saturday (January 29) that a woman had been raped earlier that day.

Officers from Bolton CID said the 18-year-old woman had been raped at around 2am that morning in Bolton town centre. READ MORE: Andy Burnham Clean Air Zone announcement as government grants delay Basil Alothman, 43, of Waggon Road, Breightmet, was subsequently arrested three days later.

He has now been charged with rape and has been remanded in custody. Alothman will appear before Wigan Magistrates Court later today (February 4).

The victim continues to be supported by specialist officers. Greater Manchester Police said they urged anyone to report incidents of rape or sexual assault to police. “Greater Manchester is nationally recognised as a model of good practice in terms of support services available to victims,” a GMP statement said. “If you or someone you know has been raped or sexually assaulted, we encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police, or a support agency so you can get the help and support available.” Saint Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre offers a 24-hour phone line service for men , woman and children who live or have been sexually assaulted within Greater Manchester.
