Angus Robertson has taken a step closer to a return to frontline politics after he was named the SNP candidate for Edinburgh Central.
The party's former leader at Westminster emerged on Friday as the winner of a long-running and at times bitter selection contest in the capital.
Robertson had faced stiff competition for the nomination from Joanna Cherry, before the MP for Edinburgh South West dramatically quit the contest in the summer.
He was then left in a two-horse race with the returning Marco Biagi, a former MSP for Edinburgh Central who stood down from Holyrood in 2016 due to health reasons.
