An anti-social hotspot could be transformed once and for all

Plans for 30 new homes on a patch of land in Middleton - which has become 'a magnet for antisocial behaviour, drinking and drug use' - have been tabled.

The site, off Borrowdale Road, known as Borrowdale Park, would see eight new houses and 22 apartments built if the proposals are approved.

The one to four-bedroom homes would all be affordable. More than 300 objections have been made without comment online, with 62 in favour. “The quality of the space is poor and it is under-utilised,” a 'design and access' statement reads. “It is a piece of land that is accessible to the public. “The land is home to bats, birds, foxes and used by local dog walkers but it is also very dark at night and is a magnet for antisocial behaviour, drinking and drug use and a place for young people to congregate at night. “There is a desire by the community to use the land for more community focused activities such as a space for children to be at one with nature and a generally safer space for all the community for enhanced health and wellbeing.
