Amazonia at M&Ds has welcomed the arrival of two black tailed marmosets after successfully breeding them for the first time.And staff at Scotland’s only indoor tropical rainforest are inviting the public to suggest names for the two who have still to be sexed.Until 2021 Amazonia had always housed female groups of the species however, with the correct zoo connections and advice in May last year it was able to take on a suitable male from another zoo and introduced him to the female.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The parents will continue to look after the infants until they are weaned after eight weeks old. Although the zoo staff work very closely caring for the animals, they do not try to intervene with the youngsters unless necessary as it is vital that the parents have a close bond with their offspring and raise them naturally.

When the youngsters are several months old they will visit the zoo vet for a general health check and to be sexed and microchipped.Jensen Taylor Connelly of M&Ds said: “We’re over the moon to welcome these two adorable wee ones to Amazonia.
