All M61 traffic stopped as police respond to incident on motorway

Emergency services are on the scene following an incident on the M61 this evening (December 20). All traffic has been held on the southbound carriageway following an incident close to Farnworth.

Drivers have been told to expect delays. According to National Highways, what has been described as a police incident is underway.

Traffic officers are in attendance and both carriageways are closed between junctions two and four. Motorists have been told to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.
