A popular travel gadget has been banned from hand luggage by an airline in an unprecedented move. Passengers flying with Air Busan, a Korean airline, are now prohibited from carrying power banks in their cabin bags after an aircraft caught fire on the runway last month.
On January 28, a blaze broke out on an Air Busan flight to Hong Kong while still at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea.
The fire, which ignited in the tail section of the aircraft, resulted in 170 passengers and crew being evacuated. An investigation is underway to find out the cause of the fire, however it's believed it may have been a power bank, the Daily Record reports.
Following the incident the airline has announced the tech ban as precaution. Lo Kok-keung, a retried engineering professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, spoke toSouth China Morning Post about the changes.
