Some 20 families from Afghanistan and Ukraine are to be housed in Salford under a resettlement scheme funded by the Government.

The city council has been asked to provide affordable accommodation for the refugees following an agreement with the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Funding has come from the Local Authority Housing Fund which has allocated a total of £750million across local authorities in England for the accommodation of Afghan and Ukrainian households, arriving in the UK via resettlement and relocation schemes.

Salford has been allocated an undisclosed amount of the cash and given a target to deliver 20 homes.
