Manchester United midfielder Ronnie Wallwork has been sentenced to 18 months jail suspended for two years following an assault in 2019, but he is not the first footballer to find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

The 43-year-old, who was on the books at Old Trafford for nine years between 1993 and 2002, pleaded guilty on Thursday to inflicting grievous bodily harm during a pub brawl on December 22, 2019.The assault saw Wallwork fracture a man's eye socket after the title winner was ''mocked'' about the style of his brand new bright white trainers In his playing days, Wallwork picked up a Premier League winners medal with 12 outings under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2000/01, but failed to build on his early success.
