A YouTube travel vlogger has expressed his surprise after visiting a city in Spain that wants British holidaygoers to stay away.

YouTuber Ben Morris flew to Barcelona, which is experiencing a surge in anti-tourist sentiment as locals wage water gun battles on visitors.Stickers declaring 'tourists go home' have been appearing across the metropolis.

On his YouTube channel, Ben revealed: "I felt the locals were treating me differently as a tourist to the other locals."I went to a local tapas restaurant, there were loads of free tables in the front of the window where it's nice and light and a nice place to sit. Tensions reached boiling point in June when residents targeted travellers with water pistols, imploring them to leave their city, reports the Express.The demonstration saw around 2,800 participants demanding a paradigm shift in the economy, aiming at curbing tourist numbers in Barcelona, Catalonia's hub.

Wielding placards with "Tourists go home," and "Barcelona is not for sale," irate residents took to the streets near popular tourist haunts.Some diners even faced unexpected water sprays as chants echoed: "Tourists out of our neighbourhood."Ben offered his own theory as to why tourists might not be popular with some locals.
