Young boy seriously assaulted in Kilmarnock rushed to Glasgow hospital

A young boy has been rushed to hospital after being seriously assaulted in Kilmarnock this evening.The youth was attacked on High Street adjacent to the Kay Park just before 6.30pm tonight.Officers have confirmed that the youngster has been rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.The extent of the injuries sustained by the youth or his condition has not been disclosed.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At 6.20pm on Monday, October 24, we received a report that a male youth had been seriously assaulted at High Street in Kilmarnock. "He has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and enquiries are ongoing.”As part of the probe into the attack, police locked down Kilmarnock town centre this evening.The bus station, taxi rank and Burns Mall were all off limits to the public.The coach depot was sealed off by cops but reopened at 8.30pm, Stagecoach have confirmed.A Stagecoach West spokesperson said: "Due to a police incident in Kilmarnock town centre, Stagecoach buses were diverted from Kilmarnock Bus Station for a short period of time on the evening of October 24. "Bus services continued to operate from town centre stops close to the bus station with staff on hand to assist passengers.
