Workmen have been spotted on the roof of Old Trafford - a day after shocking footage showed storm water gushing through it. Floodwater could be seen cascading from the corner of the roof as a thunderstorm struck during the final stages of Manchester United's Premier League defeat to Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday.

Some fans were forced to perch on seating rails to avoid their feet getting wet during the deluge. The club said 1.6 inches of rain came down in the two hours after the final whistle, which is more than half of what fell on Old Trafford throughout the whole of May 2023. United sources privately conceded 'some parts of the stadium struggled to cope' during yesterday's game but reiterated that new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has created an Old Trafford task force to address such issues.

Pictures taken outside the ground today showed a group of workmen assessing the roof. Three men wearing safety harnesses, helmets and hi-vis jackets could be seen on the top of the Stretford End.
