orgasms to boost their partners’ egos and make them feel more macho, research shows. The study, which collected data from 283 women, shows some ladies in relationships sacrifice their own pleasure between the sheets in fear they may hurt their partners’ “fragile” manhood.Lead author, Jessica Jordan, a doctoral student from the University of South Florida, said: "Women are prioritising what they think their partners need over their own sexual needs and satisfaction."Research showed that the more women saw their partner's manhood as precarious, the more anxiety they had in the sack. This in turn lowered their own sexual pleasure and the rate at which they orgasmed. An additional study, involving 196 women, found women were also less likely to provide honest sexual communication when they worried about their partners’ sense of masculinity.Ms Jordan explained: "If a woman is concerned about inadvertently threatening her partner's manhood, that could lead to a breakdown of communication."In a third paper, researchers recruited 157 women in sexual relationships with men from Facebook and they asked them to complete an anonymous survey about their sex lives. Results showed women who made more money than their partners were twice as likely to fake orgasms.Research showed that some women have been led to believe it’s their job to protect their partner's sense of masculinity. This can be worse if there’s no communication or sexual feedback is lacking. It’s a problem for men too – who can be oblivious to their partners’ needs.Ms Jordan added: “When society creates an impossible standard of masculinity to maintain, nobody wins."The study was published in the journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science.
