Mike Batt, the creative force behind classic tunes such as The Wombling Song and Remember You're A Womble, has disclosed how he ended up not receiving a penny for creating one of the most beloved theme songs accompanying the children's TV series The Wombles.
Tasked by the BBC in the 1970s to pen tracks that would secure a place in the UK music charts, Mike Batt is also recognised for composing the deeply moving track from Watership Down.
However, during a stint on BBC Breakfast this week, he made it clear that his remuneration wasn't quite as one might expect.
Batt confided to presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, saying, "I'd been in the music business for five years, since I was 18, so I was 23.
