Calls for a new secondary school in Littleborough has been backed by Rochdale’s MP as he tells ministers of the "dire need" to create more places for pupils.

Paul Waugh, who became the area’s MP at the general election in July, has written to Minister for School Standards Catherine McKinnell to request a meeting to unblock delays in building extra school provision.

According to figures from Rochdale Council there will be an expected shortfall of 26 places for Year 7 pupils in the Pennines area of Rochdale in 2026, rising to 80 places in 2027.

Since 2021, local Councillors estimate more than 100 11 and 12-year-olds have not been able to be accommodated at either Wardle or Hollingworth Academies - having to travel outside the area for school.
