A woman who was assaulted and discovered inside a bricked up tomb has been rescued gravediggers noticed blood and fresh cement.
The 36-year-old was freed at the Municipal Cemetery of Visconde do Rio Branco, in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, on the morning of March 28.Gravediggers had contacted police after noticing that the burial spot had been freshly sealed with bricks and cement and bloodstains could be seen.
When officers arrived on the scene, they heard the terrified woman's cries for help and opened the tomb to free her, the Mirror reports.The victim was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for head injuries and told officers that two masked men had taken her to the cemetery where they assaulted her and sealed her inside the grave.
The Military Police said she was keeping drugs for the men who attacked her but had "misplaced" them. The Civil Police, however, gave the motive as a dispute over a firearm.The Municipality of Visconde do Rio Branco said in a statement: "Despite the fact that the area where the incident occurred is partially closed, and even with increased security, invasions continue to occur, mainly by drug users, due to the disastrous situation in which the Municipal Cemetery was found by the current administration."At the time of reporting, officers were looking for the culprits who have now both reportedly been identified.
