The Millstone is rammed. The queue at the bar is three-deep, it's standing room only, and there's a huddle of smokers outside, including one gent with a cigar.

This might be what one could expect of a Northern Quarter boozer at 10pm on Mad Friday, just before Christmas. But it's not even a weekend, and nor is it the evening.

It's a miserable, cold Wednesday afternoon in November. So why is it so busy? Because The Millstone has a not-so-secret-weapon bringing in punters from every corner of Greater Manchester; from as far afield as Westhoughton in the west, and Hadfield in the east.

That feature is, of course, the all-day and all-night karaoke.
