A woman hit with a controversial 'bus gate' fine - having been led along the stretch by her sat nav amid roadworks - has claimed a 'victory over the big man' after it was overturned.

Gaynor Richards says she feels 'vindicated' after an independent arbitrator sided with her over Stockport council. Traffic was banned from driving along Heaton Lane, off the A6 in Stockport town centre last February, with the council beginning to issue fines the following April.

The move has been dubbed a 'cynical money-making exercise' by some drivers who got stung after it was revealed it had generated almost £1m in fines in a matter of months.

The cameras are currently off while work is carried out on Stockport's new transport interchange and rooftop park. But they WERE operating when Gaynor, 58, was driving home from singing practice just after 10pm on September 21 this year.
