Rishi Sunak will today (Wednesday, October 4) deliver his first 2023 Conservative Party conference speech since becoming Prime Minister.
The speech is expected to attempt to unite the party following reports a general election is imminent. The Prime Minister has insisted a general election is "not what anybody wants." This is despite polls showing almost 50 per cent of the public want one by spring 2024.
Mr Sunak was handed the keys to No10 after former Prime Minister Liz Truss's government collapsed due to turmoil in the financial markets, the Mirror reports.
And speaking to Sky News on the third day of the Conservatives' annual conference, he said a general election is "not what the country wants".
