Sir Keir Starmer is set to become the new prime minister after a Labour landslide in the general election. Tory leader Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the early hours of Friday morning as the results continued to roll in during a “sobering” night for his party, which has seen more than 10 of his Cabinet members lose their seats.
At a victory rally in central London, Sir Keir said the country could now "get its future back". The 61-year-old said: "We did it.

Mr Sunak is on his way back to London from his North Yorkshire constituency. He is expected to make a farewell statement outside Number 10 before being taken to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation with the King.
