Manchester United team. It is a year on from the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson while his replacement, David Moyes, was axed eight months into the job.

United chiefs decided they needed a tried and tested manager with European pedigree over the naivety of his predecessor.Ed Woodward was wooed by Van Gaal's charisma but the football he offered up was turgid and after two years, he was gone.But the club failed the Dutchman, too, by not delivering on his transfer targets - and there were many.

In total, Van Gaal wanted 10 new signings in the summer of 2014 - but where are they now?The only one United actually signed for LvG - unfortunately, a horrific leg-break would hinder his progress and it would take years for the former Southampton to.
