The duo were part of United's fabled Class of 92 along with the Neville brothers, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs. After the group were a key part of United's success from the mid-90s to the early 2000s, Sir Alex Ferguson opted to break his team up by selling the likes of Beckham, Butt and Phil Neville along with captain Roy Keane.
Scholes, however, stayed at Old Trafford and became a one-club man. That does not mean the departures of teammates did not hurt him, however, and he admitted to being devastated when Butt left. "It was all part of football.
