People living in Flixton were unhappy as what appeared to be sewage flowed out of drains and past their homes last night (Sunday, January 5).
In videos seen by the Manchester Evening News, Church Road in Flixton appeared to be open at last, after being closed for more than three days following severe flooding on New Year's Day.
But a small stream continued to flow along the pavement from a drain, which residents say is pumping out raw sewage. “We’ve got condoms and poo floating round our properties, and it's been going on for three days,” said Jean O’Hara on January 3.
She owns the Fairways Respite Service, located on Church Road, which was hit by a 'tidal wave' of water on January 1. United Utilities, which is responsible for the sewers in the area, said both the sewer network and surface water drains - operated by the council - had been inundated following the flooding.
