The chair of the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign has indicated that the final report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) into ‘injustice caused by the maladministration’ of changes to the State Pension age, “is set to be released within weeks”.
Angela Madden also urged all political parties to commit to “fair and fast compensation for the 3.8 million WASPI women denied their State Pension” ahead of the next General Election, which could take place as early as this Autumn.
The final report from the PHSO includes their findings on stages two and three of its independent investigation which covers injustice and remedy. There are other groups of 1950s-born women campaigning and calling for justice, so it’s important to be aware that people do not need to be a member of the WASPI campaign, or have made an official complaint to the PHSO, to benefit from any recommendations the Ombudsman makes to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Guidance on the PHSO website states: “If we make recommendations to the DWP, we will ask it to apply those recommendations to everyone who has been affected by any failings we identify.” Ms Madden’s comments were made following a parliamentary debate brought about by DUP MP Jim Shannon on March 12, to discuss State Pension age change compensation for millions of 1950s-born women across the UK.
