Brits on holiday in Majorca this weekend faced anti-tourism protests with more than ‘10,000’ people reportedly taking to the streets of the island’s capital.

Locals took to the streets of Palma on Sunday evening holding placards with statements including ‘fewer tourists’ and ‘Brexit out’.

City centre streets had been closed off due to the demonstration, which was organised by several groups. Various bars and restaurants chose to close early due to the march, which began at 7pm, starting from Plaza Espana and ending at Paseo del Borne.

According to local news site Majorca Daily Bulletin, the number of people “is believed to have easily surpassed the 10,000 people who took part in the first protest back in May.” Several anti-tourism protests have taken place on the island in recent months, including demonstrations on beaches.
