According to Greater Manchester Police, fraudsters have recently been making 'bogus calls' to people claiming to be from a local police station.
They are able to use a genuine GMP number using 'spoofing' - meaning the caller ID appears to be real. The fraudsters are then asking victims to transfer money to them.
