An urgent warning has been issued over scammers 'posing as police officers' in the Wigan area. Fraudsters are targeting people in the borough and scamming people out of money.
Greater Manchester Police revealed local people are being called and falsely told they have had 'suspicious transactions' on their bank accounts.
The calls, which have no caller identification number attacked, are asking people to dial 999 or 101 to verify the transactions. £9,226 has been stolen from one victim in recent days.
An urgent warning, issued by GMP read: "Residents in Wigan are encouraged to be vigilant after reports of incidents across the district. "Fraudsters posing as police officers are calling locals and stating they are calling regarding suspicious transactions on the individuals bank account.
