Consumers who own ovens made by Belling, Stoves and New World are being urged to check whether their cooker requires a modification.

This is because certain models with gas grills pose a serious carbon monoxide poisoning risk if used incorrectly. The gas range cookers have been found to have a seal fault on the grill element, which can lead to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide being produced, potentially causing injury and death.

The modification will ensure that even if the grill is used incorrectly, there will be no unsafe build-up of carbon monoxide.

If a customer has an affected model, they can continue to use it until the fix has been made so long as they use the oven in-line with its manual.
