A man remains in hospital after suffering serious injuries when a Metrolink tram was involved in a crash with a car. It follows an incident in Wythenshawe on Friday afternoon which disrupted services.

The collision happened in Hollyhedge Road, Wythenshawe. It meant Metrolink trams were suspended between Manchester Airport and Sale Water Park as a result of the incident.

Today (Saturday) a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed one man in the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

Firefighters used cutting gear to get the man out of the car. READ MORE: Police decided to stop man and woman on M62 after becoming suspicious - it was a good call Pictures from the scene showed the car had been seriously damaged in the crash while the front end of the tram was also damaged.
