A Ukrainian refugee is desperately trying to help his parents escape intense bombing attacks in his home country. Yurii Kompan is appealing for a sponsor so mum Larissa and dad Kolya can flee war-torn Ukraine and join him in Scotland.

The couple live on the outskirts of the Black Sea port of Odesa, which has been the target of fierce cruise missile attacks by Russian forces that have been getting worse in recent months.

Yurii, 35, needs to find someone in Scotland who is willing to sponsor their application to move here.He has been living in Scotland with his wife Amnna, 32, and seven-year-old son Bohdam for the past 13 months and now has a full time job.He said: “There’s a very dangerous situation in the Odesa area where many rockets and drones are landing near where my parents live.“I am worried that this could lead to problems with their gas and electricity supplies in the winter.

I don’t know how my parents will survive that.“Unfortunately, I can’t sponsor them because I am not allowed additional people in my flat due to lack of space.“I am desperately looking for people who would be willing to sponsor my parents so they can get a visa and come to a safe place with me.”IT expert Yurii said he will be happy to help with any administrative issues relating to the sponsorship application. His wife and son fled Odesa in April last year and moved to Riga in Latvia.
