The deadline for removing dangerous cladding from buildings has been set for 2029 by ministers, who have sent out a stark warning to building owners.
The government has admitted there could be as many as 7,000 buildings that still have dangerous materials unnoticed, and has criticised the slow pace of remedial works on those structures already identified.
Under the new Remediation Acceleration Plan, all structures above 59 feet (18 meters) enrolled in a government programme will be free of unsafe cladding by the announced deadline.
Furthermore, those buildings over 36 feet (11 meters) must either complete remediation or have a set date for such work, or owners could receive severe penalties.
