Two men arrested on suspicion of murder after death of baby boy in Blackpool

Two men have been arrested after the death of a baby in Lancashire. Police said they were called to Blackpool's Victoria Hospital at 7:15pm on Thursday, July 27 after a baby boy was taken there in an 'unresponsive' state.

The tot died there a short time afterwards. A 34-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of murder. A 30-year-old man, also from Blackpool was also arrested on suspicion of causing and allowing the death of a child and child neglect.

They have both since been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries. Lancashire Police today (Saturday, August 5) said today their investigation which is seeking to establish the circumstances leading to the baby boy’s death, was ongoing. They have appealed for anyone with information that may assist their enquiries, to come forward Det Superintendent Rebecca Smith said: “First and foremost my thoughts remain with the baby’s loved ones at this extremely distressing time. "We are continuing to work hard to establish exactly what led to his death.

Although we have made arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing. A Home Office post-mortem examination has taken place. The cause of the baby’s death is awaiting further investigation.
