Two influencers who tragically drowned following a yacht party in Brazil had refused to wear lifejackets before their boat was capsized by a massive wave, police say.The victims, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, were found dead after their overcrowded boat sank off a stretch of coast known as the Devil's Throat.
Almost a month after the tragic incident, police have said that the women died when their overloaded boat was swamped on its return journey to the Brazilian coast from the party.
According to Sao Vincente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino, the influencers had declined to wear life jackets, local media reported on Friday, 25 October. "Some didn't want to put them on because they were taking selfies. They said that they get in the way of their tanning," he said.
The revelation came after extensive police interviews with the boat's skipper, who has not been named by police. The captain, one of five survivors, claimed he was instructed to transport six influencers to shore despite his boat's maximum capacity being five passengers.
