Tributes flooded in for RTÉ’s Northern editor Tommie Gorman who has retired after more than four decades on our screens. The Sligo man, started his career at the Western People in the late 1970s, before moving to RTÉ as its northwest correspondent in 1980.
He subsequently was the national broadcaster’s Europe editor before moving to Belfast as Northern editor in 2001. And he most famously interviewed Roy Keane after he stormed out on the Ireland team during a row over training conditions in Saipan.
End of an era. Tommie Gorman bows out as @rtenews Northern Editor. Big shoes to fill. He’ll let me know if I slip up! @WilliamsJon @G_Broadcast @dohertypj @julianoneill @mckenp @TVconormac @davidlynas2 @therealjesser @Peter_Woodside @PiComms
