Wigan and Southport are likely to be suspended throughout today after severe flooding caused a landslip. The railway line was shut on Tuesday afternoon due to flooding at Parbold and New Lane.
Although services began running again for a short time, the route was closed again later in the day after part of the embankment collapsed.Colleagues from Network Rail went to the scene, but will have to wait until the water levels have subsided before carrying out the necessary repair work.
In the meantime, Northern will be operating an amended service to try to keep customers on the move, the Liverpool Echo reports.
