Tragic updates given in Washington plane crash press conference with 'no survivors' expected

The bodies of 28 people have been recovered following the American Airlines plane crash near Washington DC, officials have confirmed.

Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a US Army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport at around 9pm local time on Wednesday (January 30).

Sixty passengers were on board the flight, plus four members of American Airlines crew, while three soldiers were on board the helicopter, which was on a training mission.

At a press conference held at the airport, fire chief John Donnelly told reporters that officials do not believe there are any survivors from the crash.
