British holidaymakers heading to Greece this year will be hit with higher costs as the country hikes a fee aimed at protecting its citizens from climate disasters.

The Climate Resilience Fee, introduced in January to fund green initiatives, has been increased, with charges reaching up to £12.66 per room per night during the peak holiday season.

The fee will rise between April and October, impacting hotel stays and villa rentals nationwide. Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni announced the changes this week, stating that the additional revenue would be used to fund the prevention and restoration of natural disasters and to enhance infrastructure supporting the tourism sector.

The move is a response to last year's devastating forest fires and floods, as well as challenges posed by over-tourism and the national housing crisis.
