A tourist has died and four others left trapped under a 131ft frozen waterfall after a 'large lump' fell from the giant icicle.
Rescuers were called to the remote spot in Russia’s volcanoes-and-glaciers Kamchatka peninsula today following reports that a group of people were stranded under the ice.
The group of seven and one guide were marooned at Vilyuchinsky waterfall in the south of the region on the country’s Pacific coast, it has been reported.
Witnesses pulled a 'gravely' wounded child from the scene as well as a man and woman who also suffered injuries. But four were reported to still be stranded under the crashed ice following the accident today - which is Orthodox Christmas Day in Russia.
