Michael Kirk Douglas (born September 25, 1944) is an American actor and producer. He has received numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the AFI Life Achievement Award.

The elder son of Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill, Douglas received his Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His early acting roles included film, stage, and television productions. Douglas first achieved prominence for his performance in the ABC police procedural television series The Streets of San Francisco, for which he received three consecutive Emmy Award nominations.

Top Gun star Val Kilmer has opened up about his health battle after being diagnosed with throat cancer four years ago, and jokes that he now ‘laughs like a pirate’.  The Top Gun actor was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2015 but only revealed his health problems two years later after actor Michael Douglas broke the news.

Sharing an update on his health, Val said on Good Morning America this week: ‘I feel a lot better than I sound, but I feel wonderful.  ‘I was diagnosed with throat cancer, which healed very quickly.’  Holding his hand to his throat, he added: ‘This is a tracheotomy… to help me breathe because the glands in my throat swelled up as well.’  When asked what he misses about his old voice, Val joked: ‘That I had one!
