Thomas Tuchel has explained the reason behind his decision to bring on Kepa Arrizabalaga for Chelsea's penalty shootout win over Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Kepa, who famously refused to be substituted as penalties loomed in the 2019 Carabao Cup final, replaced Edouard Mendy with a minute of extra time remaining in Belfast.
The Spanish stopper was summoned from the bench with the score locked at 1-1 after after Gerard Moreno cancelled out Hakim Ziyech's first-half opener.Two years ago Kepa was the villain of the piece, but this time he was the hero, saving spot-kicks from Aissa Mandi and Raul Albiol as Chelsea ran out 6-5 winners on spot-kicks.
