This Morning editor Martin Frizell has broken his silence regarding the Phillip Schofield scandal as he accused outspoken stars condemning Phil of “settling scores” amid an allegedly “toxic” work environment.
Martin made the comments on Saturday, after it was revealed that the Chair of the Culture Committee had accused ITV of “lurching from one disaster to another” in the wake of the scandal.
When asked by Sky News whether he thought there was a toxic work environment at This Morning, he told the network: “I think you've got to read between the lines. There are some scores being settled.” He also denied being “concerned” about an upcoming external review into ITV’s safeguarding practices, as several MPs and public figures raised concerns about how the network had handled the incident.
He added: “All I want to say is I am working with a fantastic team of mainly women, many mums, a lot of them concerned for their jobs although we've told them they don't need to be.” Martin even revealed he was “looking forward” to speaking to the lawyer that had been appointed to chair the review, but declined to answer any specific questions regarding the content of the enquiry.
