The Royals have long had close links to Scotland, with the Queen regularly inviting her extended family to spend summers with her there.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge famously met in Scotland while they were both studying at St Andrew's University. The pair both lived at St Salvator's Hall residence in 2001, but it wasn't until Kate caught Prince William's eye at a charity fashion show in 2002 that they eventually got together.But did you know that Prince William and Kate also have their own secret Scottish bolthole that they were known to sneak off to during their budding romance as students?While it may be well known that The Queen adores her home at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, she is not the only one to have a soft spot for the estate.The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been seen at Balmoral several times over the years, a place where they can escape for family picnics, fishing and deer-stalking in utmost privacy.Indeed, the family has their own home there, a three-bedroom cottage called Tam-Na-Ghar.

The couple, who have now been married for 11 years and have three children together, have used the cottage as a retreat since the days when they were both students at St Andrew's University, according to HELLO!.

The beautiful residence was reportedly left to Prince William upon the death of his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, in 2002, and it's been said they have spent some of the happiest days together there.
